Council Training

Strong councils don’t just function well—they create momentum for the whole community. When council members have clarity, confidence, and a shared understanding of their roles, everything from decision‑making to day‑to‑day operations becomes smoother and more productive.

Matthewson & Co. offers practical, plain‑language Council Training designed specifically for small and mid‑sized municipalities. In a focused 2–3 hour session, we help both new and experienced council members build the knowledge and confidence they need to make sound decisions, work effectively with administration, and contribute to a positive, forward‑looking council culture.

Our training is encouraging, engaging, and grounded in real municipal experience. We address the challenges CAOs see every day—limited capacity, shifting regulations, competing priorities—and turn them into opportunities for stronger teamwork and clearer governance. We break down complex legislative requirements into simple, usable guidance and create space for council members to ask questions, align expectations, and strengthen their working relationships.

The result is a council that leaves energized, informed, and ready to lead with clarity and purpose. If you want a council that works together, understands its role, and supports the work of administration, we can help you build that foundation.

Why Work With Matthewson & Co. ?

We understand small populations. We developed our services specifically for small communities.

There are many wonderful supports available, and we are happy to direct you to them! We use these resources ourselves. Sometimes, there is just not enough time in the day to seek them all out. We can help.

We are affordable, accessible, and willing to work closely with you to help you as needed, without any long-term commitment. Our goal is to build sustainability, not dependency on our services.

We are used to working within the parameters of a small population with limited budgets and conflicting goals.  We have experience working with non-profit boards and with small businesses. Need something and cannot find it? Let us source it for you.
