Leading Through Conflict: How to Stay Professional When Lead through conflict with confidence. Learn how to stay calm, set boundaries, and keep tough situations professional. Conflict is unavoidable in municipal life, especially in small and rural communities where relationships overlap and emotions can run high. What matters is how leaders show up in those moments. This session focuses on conflict as a leadership skill—something you can learn, practice, and improve, not a personality trait you’re either born with or without. You’ll explore how to stay calm when people are upset, how to respond with intention instead of reacting on instinct, and how to set boundaries with difficult personalities without escalating the situation. We’ll also look at how to protect staff from political behaviour and keep them out of the crossfire when tensions rise at the council table or in the community. The goal is to help leaders deal with issues early, professionally, and without unnecessary drama—so conflict becomes something you can navigate confidently rather than something that derails your work or your team. This webinar is part of the Practical Leadership Skills for Municipal Leaders & CAOs Webinar Series.
