About Us

Matthewson & Co. is a for-profit social enterprise founded by Lorri Matthewson. We specialize in providing economic development support to small population communities, specifically with populations less than 5,000. Our supports are based on the unique needs of each community. We are affordable and accessible, meaning we can come to your Council meeting or meet with you virtually. Our most sought-after services are monthly economic development plans, Council training, strategic plans, project management, policy writing, and grant support. Be sure to check out our "Services" page for a description of each service. If you have any questions about our services, phone calls and emails are always free!

Our Story

Lorri Matthewson has been working in the economic development industry for over two decades. Before branching out on her own, she worked as an economic development officer for a community and then a grant writer for several years. During this time, Lorri recognized the gap between the services that municipal Councils are expected to provide and the limited resources available to provide them - which lead to the idea of starting her own business. In 2015, Lorri went back to school - attending Cape Breton University, where she graduated with an MBA in Community Economic Development in 2019. Since then, the team has grown from a solo operation to a five person team, with room for future growth.
